about

After his highly acclaimed remix of Phil Kieran’s ‘Empty Vessels’ one of the most prolific and inventive producers in the current electronic music scene returns to Electric Deluxe: Gary Beck with an EP of his own, ‘Egoist’.
Created sometime last year during a dark and stormy night in Glasgow, the track with the promising title `Egoist’ was at first about to be forgotten. At some point `Egoist’ ended up in Speedy J’s hands, who immediately decided to play it; ‘Egoist’ proved its name, “ripping apart every dance floor every time it got dropped”. Surprisingly the track had not been released yet. Things led to a collaborative work on remixes and tools in Speedy J’s studio and a forgotten track became the strong backbone and theme to a whole EP.

The vinyl A Side of course is the infamous “Egoist” starting off with a reduced groove and a compact rolling bass drum, evolving in a echoing snare – hi-hat inferno. But “Egoist” is more than just an efficient dance floor weapon. With the inventively used subtle vocal samples and its sexy groove this track creates a cool which just goes beyond. The B Side “Speedy J’s Dub Tool” is the floor interpretation, the heavy Dub Tool brother of “Egoist”. A dark and rock solid bass drum is constantly rolling and pumping, snare rolls pushing in and out topped by white noise create an adrenaline fueled ride you never want to end.

The digital release of ‘Egoist’ EP contains two bonus tracks and tools. One is a joint forces remix created by Speedy J and Gary Beck giving us best of both worlds in an astonishing organic thriving Track reemphasizing the sound modulation aspects without ever losing sight of the dance floor. Number two is a tool created by Speedy J and Gary Beck focusing on the mid range elements claps, rolling snares and echoing ambient sounds and vocals.
